Dr. Jared Freedman initially embarked on his journey in optometry to help improve the lives and vision of those closest to him. Growing up, his sister struggled to see clearly due to high amounts of astigmatism. She had tried numerous specialty contact lenses but was not able to achieve the vision she needed. Her journey to clear vision ignited a spark as Dr. Freedman was able to see second hand the impact poor vision can have on one’s quality of life.

Dr. Freedman graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Chemistry. Following his undergraduate studies, he completed his optometric training at Southern College of Optometry where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honors Society. During his optometric training, Dr. Freedman realized his passion for vision rehabilitation utilizing specialty contact lenses and decided to pursue further residency training.

Dr. Freedman completed a Cornea and Contact Lens residency program through the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. During his residency training, he had the opportunity to rotate through world renowned hospitals and tertiary care centers including the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston Medical Center, and Boston Foundation for Sight. Dr. Freedman has extensive experience in specialty contact lenses, irregular corneas, keratoconus, and the surgical management of corneal transplants and corneal cross-linking. Specifically, he has experience in fitting rigid gas permeable, scleral, hybrid, multifocal and cosmetic iris painted contact lenses for a number of ocular pathologies. At the Boston Foundation for Sight, Dr. Freedman also gained experience working with the PROSE device to help manage severe ocular surface disease.

Following residency, Dr. Freedman worked as an instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He worked alongside corneal specialists fitting specialty contact lenses and managing corneal pathology. He also provided diabetic eye care, glaucoma management, comprehensive eye exams, emergency eye care and was involved in clinical research. He served as an attending optometrist and mentor to optometry students during their 4th year student externships.

Dr. Freedman enjoys building relationships with his patients and treats each of his patients as if they were part of his own family. He truly enjoys helping those who have suffered with poor vision and restoring their quality of life. He continues to attend optometric education conferences and workshops to ensure he is providing his patients with the highest level of care.

Dr. Freedman is an avid sports fan, enjoys cooking, cycling, hiking and spending time with his puggle (half pug/half beagle) Conley.  In his spare time, he likes to travel and experience new cultures, food, and hiking trails. Dr. Freedman enjoys getting travel recommendations from his patients, feel free to make a recommendation at your next visit

What got you interested in specialty contact lenses in the first place?

This one is actually quite personal. My sister struggled for a long time to see clearly because she had lots of astigmatism in both eyes. It's just something that she was kind of born with and ultimately she was never successful in glasses or conventional soft contact lenses. So growing up, I really saw how much she struggled to see clearly.

Because of that, it was something I wanted to pursue early on. I wanted to one day be able to help her and allow her to see as clearly as she needed to in order to do the things that she wanted to do. And it helped me realize the impact that the right lenses can have not just on someone's vision, but on their overall quality of life.

Now I was able to help my sister by fitting her with specialty contact lenses, and she's much happier than she has ever been. So being able to help one of my own family members has been rewarding and they helped grow my interest in the field.

What education and experience do you have with keratoconus and scleral lenses?

I completed residency training specifically in cornea and contact lens. Throughout that training, the majority of the patients I saw were patients with corneal issues like keratoconus and post-lasik complications that impacted their cornea. So, I've treated hundreds and hundreds of patients with keratoconus and a lot of them have done quite well in scleral lenses.

Dr. Wolfram retired from patient care in May 2021, but he will still stay involved in guiding the practice forward sharing his years of wisdom, experience, and knowledge.

Dr. Wolfram Andrews was born and raised in Schwäbisch Hall, Germany. He traveled to the United States at a young age of 18 to begin a new and prosperous life. Settling in Columbus Ohio, Dr. Andrews graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He played 4 years on the varsity soccer team achieving Outstanding Sophomore status and was selected for the All-Midwest Team during his junior year.

Upon graduating from The Ohio State University, he began his optometric schooling at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. During his time in optometry school, he served as vice president of his class all four years, and was also an avid member of the student council. During his fourth year of optometry school, Dr. Andrews completed an externship program at the Baltimore Optometric Center where he treated many patients and became familiar with working in an optometric practice. In addition, he worked with Dr. Albert E. Wascou in New Holland Pennsylvania.

Andrews has traveled extensively to focus on global eye care. He went to Cap Haitien, Haiti in 1976 as part of his education to treat some of the various eye diseases of the Haitian people. In 1984, he journeyed to the Turks and Caicos Islands where he spent about two weeks flying to remote areas to deliver eye care to residents who had not had care in decades. Dr. Andrews enjoys annual mission trips to Guatemala where he provides eye care to missionaries and dozens of locals every year. He continues to serve also on a local level providing free eye exams and glasses to missionaries who are affiliated with his local church.

Once graduated as a Doctor of Optometry, Dr. Andrews decided to pursue his career in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He began moonlighting at several practice locations before he and Dr. Jay Stoltzfus opened their own practice known as Optometric Associates. The doors opened in May of 1981 with the desire to offer high quality care at reasonable prices to satisfy their patients needs. Today after more than 33 years of practice at the same location, the goal remains the same.

Dr. Andrews has extensive training in specialty contact lenses, detection and treatment of ocular disease, and geriatric eye care. He enjoys working with patients in a one on one setting and appreciates the small town feel of his practice. Many of his patients have been with him since the practice opened it’s doors.

He is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of New Holland, where he still attends weekly meetings after 26 years of membership. In addition he is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Optometric Associations. He currently resides in New Holland with his wife, Arlene with whom he has five children. He was thrilled to add his son Dr. Jonathan Andrews as an associate doctor at the practice in May of 2014.

When not at work, he enjoys being with his family, working out in the gym, and riding his motorcycle down to the beach. He is also delighted to spend time with his granddaughters, all under the age of two, and his Old English Mastiff named Brutus (after the Buckeyes, of course!).
