Dr. Cindy Koza is a Pennsylvania native and has returned to her roots in 2018 after practicing for most of her career in Virginia. Her path to optometry was inspired by her own optometrist, Dr. Ines Casado, who had helped her see with glasses and contacts since the age of 10. As a high school student, Dr. Koza shadowed Dr. Casado for a school project, and was immediately drawn to the career for the satisfaction of helping people and the reward in building life-long patient relationships.
Dr. Koza now calls Dr. Casado a mentor as well as a fellow Villanova alumni, and now an optometric colleague. Meeting patients who are still discovering their path and are enthusiastic about discussing their journey possibly towards optometry or any other career is a highlight of the patient experience for Dr. Koza, as she aspires to be a 'Dr. Casado' for her own young patients.
Out of high school with her focus (pun-intended) on eventually attending optometry school, she pursued a degree in Chemistry at Villanova University. At Villanova, Dr. Koza also played four years of varsity lacrosse. Upon graduating from Villanova, she took her academics and competitive drive to sunny Florida. In Fort Lauderdale, she attended Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry while also developing an interest in endurance sports. She balanced long days (and nights) of studying with training for marathons and triathlons.
Her most notable training while in school was in Bethel, Alaska. Dr. Koza spent 3 months in rural Alaska serving the Eskimo-Indian population in Bethel and surrounding villages, only accessible by small commuter airplanes and snow mobiles. After completing her Doctorate of Optometry and other clinical training, she settled in Virginia and worked for eight years in two different ophthalmology practices. She worked alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists specializing in cataract, glaucoma and refractive surgeries, while providing comprehensive routine and medical examinations, as well as emergent care.
Dr. Koza most recently had experience working in a small town practice equipped with the latest in cutting-edge technology. As once a LASIK and dry eye patient herself, Dr. Koza has a special interest in LASIK co-management and the advancements in technology for dry eye management.
Above all, Dr. Koza values the relationships made with patients of all ages by providing comprehensive care with enthusiasm and a smile.
While not seeing patients, Dr. Koza relaxes with crafting, yoga and traveling with her fiancé to their favorite beaches on Hilton Head and the Hawaiian islands.
